Obituary for Sam C. Davis

Sam C. Davis, age 72, of Bourbon, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening at 9:30 PM at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, with his family at his side.

Sam was born December 13, 1945 in Warsaw, Indiana, to John W. (Ted) and Glendora Lesh Davis and was a lifelong resident of the area. As a graduate of Warsaw High School in 1964, Sam continued his education by attending Indiana State University, Ball State University, and obtaining his Master’s Degree from Saint Frances College.

Sam taught and coached for many years at Triton High School, most notably coaching wrestling, for which he was a Hall of Fame inductee. While at Triton, he also coached football and track, and was a driver’s education instructor. Sam was an intricate part of the Tech Club, building Super Mileage Challenge cars at Triton High School. Most recently, Sam was an assistant wrestling coach at Tippecanoe Valley Middle School and High School. Sam worked on and drove race cars in multiple divisions at tracks throughout the Midwest and enjoyed spending time with his extended racing family.

Sam married the love of his life from college, Virginia Seybold, on January 27, 1968 in Terre Haute, Indiana. Those left to cherish Sam’s memory are his wife of 50 years and his brother, John W. Davis Jr. of Warsaw. Other survivors include niece, Cindy (Joe) Kimmel of Mentone and children, Sam (RaeAnne) Kimmel and Barbie Kimmel (fiancé Clayton Maynard); niece, Sandy (Clay) Layne of Warsaw and daughters, Allison and Brooklynn; and nephew, John W. (Holly) Davis III of Brownsburg and daughter, Brianna. Sam was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Barbara Davis.

Sam was one who always thought of the other person. He would frequently extend a helping hand to someone with the simple expectation that the recipient reach back and extend that helping hand to someone else in need of help in the future.

A time of visiting with the Davis family will be held in the Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main Street, Bourbon, Indiana 46504 on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 11, 2018 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon.
